The public is encouraged by State Sen. Chuck Weaver (R-Peoria) to submit a tribute and a photo of their loved ones who served in the armed forces, which will be displayed on the Veterans Day “Wall of Honor” in the Illinois Capitol Nov. 5-16.
“We can’t do enough to honor our veterans, who have given so much in service to our country,” said Sen. Weaver. “By contributing to this moving tribute, or simply taking time to watch and reflect on these veterans’ stories, this is a way for all of us to honor the sacrifices and service of our servicemen and women this Veterans Day.”
Families are to submit photos and written stories (max: 250 words) along with the following information: name, military branch (Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Marine Corps, National Guard, Navy) and conflict served (Afghanistan, Iraq, September 11, Gulf War, Vietnam, Korea, WWII, WWI, Peacetime, other). Military photos are preferred but not necessary.
Please email submissions to firstname.lastname@example.org by Nov. 5. Submissions can also be mailed to Veterans Day Wall, 309 G Statehouse, Springfield, IL 62706. For questions, call 217-782-1650.
The Illinois Department of Veterans’ Affairs is also partnering with Sen. Weaver on this tribute.
“The Wall of Honor allows all of us to remember the men and women who sacrificed to serve our great country so that we may live in Freedom. Please send your Illinois hero’s story so we can honor all our Illinois Veterans,” said IDVA Director Stephen Curda, Ph.D.
