Peoria- State Senator Chuck Weaver (R-Peoria) has been appointed to the Illinois General Assembly’s Advisory Council on At Risk Students, a panel charged with finding ways to improve educational opportunities and access for disadvantaged students.
“A student’s education lays the foundation for the future success in life, which is why it’s so important that we make sure all of our students have the best possible access to education,” said Senator Weaver. “This council will allow us to continually work to find new ways to help our most at-risk students succeed.”
The Advisory Council on At Risk Students is made up of 20 members, most members are education and human service professionals. The Republican leader in the Senate was allowed to select one person to serve on the council and she selected Senator Weaver.
The council will file an annual report with the General Assembly to recommend changes to be implemented.
Senator Weaver has long worked as an advocate for students and disadvantaged children, as a past president of the Youth Farm in Peoria where served on the board for 28 years. He was involved in merging Youth Farm with the Childrens Home, one of Illinois’ premier providers for at risk children.
“We have some serious challenges to face with our educational system, but I’m truly excited at the opportunity to work toward ensuring a quality education for every student,” said Senator Weaver.
