Neponset, Toluca to be awarded funds for community projects
More than $1.4 million will be awarded to two 37th District communities for municipal improvement projects, according to Senator Chuck Weaver.
“Local officials from Neponset and Toluca have been notified that their communities will be awarded funding from the Community Development Block Grant program,” said Senator Weaver. “These grants are competitive so these communities should be thankful for their village and city leaders who had the vision to seek these grants and did the work needed to submit the applications.”
Neponset will receive $500,000 for improvements to the Village’s water system, including looping and hydrants within the project boundaries. The community will also receive $500,000 to rehabilitate 10 housing units.
Toluca will receive $425,000 for improvements to the city’s waste water treatment plant.
The Community Development Block Grant program is one of the longest continuously run programs at the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development. Although federally funded, the program is administered by the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity, and awards funds to support local community development activities such as affordable housing, anti-poverty programs, and infrastructure development.
