Weaver named lead Republican on Education Committee
Springfield- State Senator Chuck Weaver (R-Peoria) will now serve as the top Republican on the Illinois Senate Education Committee, as he has been appointed the Republican Spokesperson for the panel.
“I’m excited for the opportunity to be able to work to improve our state’s school system for all students, so they can have the brightest possible futures,” said State Senator Chuck Weaver (R-Peoria).
Senator Weaver, a lifelong resident of Peoria and supporter of education, also served one term on the board of the Dunlap school system in the late 1980’s, where all three of his children later attended school.
“I’ve seen how things work in districts like Dunlap, and I also proudly watched as my daughter taught in the Englewood neighborhood of Chicago,” said Senator Weaver. “We have a wide variety of districts and learning environments in this state, and we must make sure that they all have the best support systems in place to help our students.”
Sen. Weaver added, “I hope that moving forward we are able to look at every avenue for best practices, to offer opportunities to help college-bound students be better prepared for higher education, as well as other possibilities such as career cruising that can help find careers for students who will head straight to the workforce. We need the best options for students, regardless of where they are heading in their adult life.”
In addition to Senator Weaver’s role on the Education Committee, he also serves on the Commerce and Economic Development, Telecommunications & InfoTechnology, Insurance, Licensed Activities & Pensions, and Labor Committees.
